Major Project - The Road That Lies Ahead & Our Current Plans
Our Current Position & Major Project Plans
Over the course of the last several months both me and George have been working in the background alongside Alex on the pre-production elements of our Major Project concept. The plan is to produce a documentary following Alex's attempt at becoming a licensed motorsport racing driver; the current title for the project is 'DreamChaser' though this could change at a later date, as production develops.
At this point there is already extensive planning in place for what the project will consist of. Alex will be fulfilling the role of Writer/Director, as well as starring as the main contributor of the documentary. George will be taking the producing and editing role, with his focus being on managing the administrative side of the production, corresponding with potential contributors and sponsors via email, managing the budgetary side of production and of course the shooting schedule. The editing side of this will begin in mid March, at which point George plans to begin compiling our existing footage into an Adobe Premiere Pro timeline. My role within this project will be Director of Photography, as well as Sound Engineer and VFX artist, therefore I will be responsible for the visual look and tone of the piece, the storyboarding of each sequence, as well as the Adobe After Effects composites that will be required for some of the on-screen elements in post-production (e.g. Animated lower thirds, archival footage/flashback sequences etc.)
We have been through several versions of the script at this point and Alex has communicated back and forth with both me and George throughout this entire process, leading to many collaborative alterations to the script. George has also produced a budgetary sheet (pictured above) that will be consistently updated as production unfolds. This will allow us to keep track of all of our expenses during the production of 'DreamChaser' - We each have contributed ~£700 of our own money into the project, however this is not the only source of funding that we have received for this project.
From the beginning, we knew that we wanted to open this project up to crowdfunding through an online platform such as IndieGoGo or Kickstarter, we knew that we would be able to acquire additional funding through the promotion of the project on Alex's YouTube channel. Given that this channel is focused heavily around motorsport and Formula 1, the documentary already appeals to his existing audience of over 50,000 subscribers. As of now the project has currently raised over £400 and still has several weeks before completion. We set the target for the funding campaign at £800, allowing us to cover the cost of additional expenses such as behind the scenes content like vlogs, as well as tiered rewards like branded t-shirts and signed posters.
We look forward to seeing how this project progresses as we now push into early production preparation. Currently shooting is scheduled to begin on January 21st at Brand's Hatch circuit, where Alex will be taking his medical test as a prerequisite for his racing license test on January 26th.
