Documentary Unit | Script Progress Report 1
Me, George and Alex decided early on that it would be wise to use various online resources to collaborate over the internet as well as in person, this meant that we could maximise our working efficiency without having to rely on the macs or other resources available at the studios. For this reason we opted to write our script using a google document, meaning we can all edit it in real-time together, making thoughtful and interesting changes as we see fit.
As you can see the script is laid out in a two column format, with the left being dedicated to the type of shot, what is being shown etc, and the right side being all about the content of said shot, denotations, commentary/narration etc.
Today was our first scheduled session with Helen to essentially assess and progress report our work up until this point. One of the key things we took away from the meeting was that we need to have a goal in mind, while also being realistic in terms of what we can accomplish within our limited production time. For that reason, we are now looking into ways in which we can cut down our initial script, therefore creating a much more streamlined narrative, as well as a clear goal that our presenter is heading for.
We also had the 'Eureka!' moment of perhaps using our presenters acting career as a motivation for positively changing your aesthetic. It is also key as a sidenote that we now start to provide people with production dates, narrowing down a shooting schedule within the allotted time given. George has been spending time emailing nutritionists back and forth to try and close in on an interview; we're now finding that for the personal shopper aspect of the documentary, we're going to have to get into contact with someone and not only arrange their role within the documentary, but also ensure we have permission to film in the shops listed.
