Pre-Production Unit | No Man's Land - A Witcher Series | Tutorial Meetings with Simon
Evaluating My Current Progress & Learning Where To Go Next
As part of the pre-production unit I have been taking part in bi-weekly 1-on-1 meetings with our unit/course leader Simon Welsford. These are opportunities for me to explain where I'm at in terms of project progress, what my plans are for the future, and for us to ask each other any key questions in regards to my project and idea moving forward.
I've been finding these sessions incredibly useful given that they allow me to address any looming concerns that I have in the back of my mind during my meetings, doing a lot to minimise confusion on both our parts as to what it is I intend to produce. An example of a time where this has benefited me was when it came to the budgetary information - I was originally under the impression that regardless of our chosen role within this unit (Producer, Director, Writer, D.O.P. etc), we would be expected to put together a full, extensive and detailed budget sheet for the production of the show. Fortunately, this turned out not to be the case when I asked Simon, with my role being director of photography - my pre-production package focuses much more on the visual approach to the series, rather than the financial and managerial side of things.
Similarly, during my last meeting we sat and went through my learning agreement step-by-step. The document/contract that I sign to agree to a set number of criteria for the project itself. Mine can be seen below and included a synopsis, pitch, mini-treatments for each of the 8 episodes, some information about my intended broadcaster and why they would be appropriate for the show, camera testing, casting information and aspirations, potential filming locations and of course the opening title sequence itself - acting as the core piece of practical work that I am producing as part of the pre-production package:
Originally I had planned to reach out to some contacts in order to attempt to commission a full piece of original music for 'No Man's Land - A Witcher Series' however this unfortunately fell through when I realised how little time I had when accounting for the rest of the project, alongside my dissertation work and pre-planning on our upcoming third year major project in Spring 2019.
I don't think this will be an issue in the long run however as I already have a shortlist of worthy instrumentals and song choices for the title sequence.
