Commission Piece - Crawley Town V Mansfield Town - Shoot Day!
Constructing My Shoot
After having the meeting with Bruce on Monday I had sent through some contact details as requested and was told to report to the reception desk at 12:30 on Saturday afternoon in order to be present for when the players arrive (pictured below).
When I showed up I was introduced to a fellow undergraduate who films games over at the club during his spare time, along with running aspects of Crawley Town's social media outlets and studying for his dissertation. This was invaluable to me as it not only gave me someone to talk to throughout the match, but also it was a perspective I wasn't expecting to be exposed to during filming. Having him present throughout gave that little bit of guidance necessary for me to remain outside my comfort zone.
As part of the deal I made with Bruce on Monday, I was provided with an 'Access All Areas' press pass for the Saturday. (Pictured right) This was extremely useful as it allowed me to visit the boardroom, trophy room and even the home and away team rooms which press aren't generally given access to. Similarly, I was given free reign before kick-off to explore the ground inside and out, gathering any b-roll I needed. I took the opportunity to film various angles of the entrance tunnel that the players walk out from, also ensuring I managed to shoot the moment at which the players did so.
I only wish they managed to spell my name correctly on the damn pass! Not entirely sure where the 'R' came from. Either way, I stuck around for the duration of the match despite the harsh temperatures. Due to kick-off being at 15:00 it was dark by the time the second half started meaning the temps fell even further. Honestly, battling the cold was nearly as challenging as ensuring I was filming when the goals were scored!
Below I've included some images and screengrabs from footage that I recorded today;
