Directions Unit | Shoot Prep - Casting

For the casting of this project I wanted to stick within my own social circle, this decision was made due to financial restraints as well as convenience. I'll admit to being somewhat apprehensive when it comes to hiring professional actors for the project currently - This is due to the level of professionalism these actors/actresses may expect, as well as being able to cover their travel expenses and food costs. On the other hand however, due to me being located in a different area, I can easily use friends who aren't already in my class. Therefore preventing the immersion break we would experience upon seeing one of our peers during the end of unit screening.

Wayne/Badger - Portrayed by Matt Fussell

Matt I feel is a good choice to play the role of Wayne as he fits both the age range of the character and is capable of executing extensive dialogue. Both acting parts within this project features comprehensive dialogue so it's important that those I choose for the job are able to handle that. Matt has also offered to wear appropriate clothing for the role, and both actors have already received a copy of the current script.

Matt also expressed an interest in acting within my previous project for the storytelling unit, however due to timings and unforeseen circumstances, Matt was unable to attend the shoot day. He hopes to become somewhat of a staple within my work moving forward.

Young Man/Undercover Narcotics Agent - Portrayed by Joshua Phillips

Josh is one of a kind. His style, the way he carries himself is unique. Somehow he manages to portray confident shyness, if that's possible? He actually played a lead role in the first short I made in a group, as part of our preliminary Media Studies A2 coursework. While the tone of that sequence was completely different (i.e. comedy/skit) I feel that he has the ability to provide a wide range of different emotions on screen and capturing that is my challenge as the DP. I look forward to working with him both on this project and hopefully many others to come.

Extras - Background/Foreground etc.

Since I am planning to recreate the scene from 'Breaking Bad' I intend to have people walking in and out of the foreground of the shot as to ensure there's sufficient realism and authenticity to the location. I don't want people to think that this is an abandoned park we've decided to set up shop in. This is a living, breathing atmosphere.

  1. THERE is some good research and prep starting to show in your journal. I am little unsure about some of your choices which all seem to be about "being easy". You need to make it achievable - but you also need to make a challenge that will push you.
