I spent the majority of this afternoon and evening working on the edit, hoping to finish it off tomorrow. Things are looking good.

As you can see one of the main focuses for me during this session was coming up with an original way to introduce on screen text elements into the video. I wanted to do it in a more modern, contemporary way as opposed to simply writing text onto a moving image. In order to achieve the effect seen above I generated titles using the legacy titler within premiere itself, then simply applied a 'Track Matte Key' to the video playing beneath the text. When set to generate a matte of the appropriate video track, the above effect is achieved. 

Adjusting the scale and alignment of the text was simple using the titler (pictured above). I found this look to be give the video a professional edge that it wouldn't have otherwise possessed and am happy with how it's come out at this stage during the edit.
