As Live Production - Editing The Final Promo Trailer
The Edit
One of my roles during this unit was the editor for the main promo trailer for Steal The Style. I enjoyed getting the chance to flex my editing skill-set in this way, even more so considering I'm planning on choosing the role of 'Editor' for our upcoming transition unit.
After receiving the footage through from Katie P, I got to work compiling a rough cut for the promo. This was much easier to follow the second time round thanks to the test shoot that we carried out several weeks ago, it allowed us to ensure crew addressed certain issues (lighting, focus and framing) as much as we could during the real shoot day, allowing it to go as smoothly as possible. This time round, the promo was shot on a Panasonic DVX200, meaning we could scale up to 4K resolution for additional clarity, furthermore the lens gives much more versatility when it comes to playing with depth of field and motion blur, allowing us to develop a more professional looking piece in general.
One of the key areas of focus was colour correction (pictured above) as some of the exterior shots required the exposure to be adjusted, similarly the contrast needed to be punched up ever so slightly during the close-up shots of both Alfie and Adeline.
I was also able to implement the new logo design that was sent to me by Simon L from the GFX team, by doing so it cleaned up the outro quite nicely, giving it a much more industry-standard branding appeal. I took the liberty of keyframing in a 'pop' effect for the logo's entrance, this helps personify both the logo and the brand itself. (Pictured below)
I feel like I'm getting much more comfortable with the Adobe Creative Suite at this stage in the course, there are no doubt marked improvements since our initial editing workshops with Ferg back at the beginning of our first year, so I would be lying if I said I didn't take comfort in that fact. The trailer itself (which can be viewed here...) has been submitted to the UCA Marketing Team with which they will then distribute it amongst the UCA campus'.
