As Live Production - Rehearsal Session /w Presenters and Contributors
Rehearsing Once Again
Today was our last full day in the studio before the set designers and lighting professionals come in next Wednesday to rig everything for the show the following day. Because of this it was crucial to both Del and the crew that we got the opportunity to work through each of the show's segments to the point where we began to feel confident in our approach to the format. I've been working with Alex Baldwin as a Camera Operator during these rehearsals, adhering to my role chosen at the beginning of the unit. We've decided between us that I'll be operating the camera during the first half of the show, with Alex taking over after the role swap mid-way through. Whichever one of us isn't operating the camera at any given time will be working as a script coordinator, providing further clarification and direction as to the shots and dialogue listed within the script itself; it is however important to note that the director's word is final and any demand made through the talkback must be prioritised over any other direction, be it from our partner or the script itself.
It was great to get the opportunity to rehearse with both Adeline and Alfie present (pictured above), being our presenters they're integral to the smooth running of the show and today they demonstrated a great chemistry that I'm excited to see blossom on the day of transmission.
We also had Ollie, Will and Andrew walking around the studio (pictured left) during rehearsals shooting material for a behind the scenes video that may or may not be put together at some point, however I am unsure as to the specifics when it comes to this side-project.
We rehearsed the show in it's entirety a total of 4 times today, with a gradual improvement in efficiency and professionalism as each attempt went on. The first run-through took longer than initially expected as we kept stopping due to various issues in the gallery, we quickly discovered that doing so would not make for efficient use of our time in the studio, therefore before breaking for lunch we all agreed to get three full run-throughs of the show before stopping at 16:30 for our end of day debrief with Del. This was accomplished and left us all feeling much more confident heading into next week, not to mention the sense of achievement one feels when completing a rehearsal successfully, as part of a larger team. I can only imagine how great it'll be when we wrap the show at the end of transmission.
We also had a number of contributors in the studios today so they could get used to the script, the way the show will work and their role in it. It was great to have them on board as it allowed us to get a sense of what will and won't work when it comes to the pre-written dialogue for each of the presenters. I believe it was mentioned at the end of today's session that the DIY contributor (who wasn't present today) would be present for any potential rehearsals next Wednesday afternoon - these aren't confirmed as we don't currently know how long it will take the set designers and lighting professionals to finish their job. Unfortunately yet understandably, due to health and safety concerns, we're not permitted to be in the studios when the lighting equipment is being rigged.
As it stands, things are looking good right now, at least from my perspective. I think up until today a lot of people were apprehensive as to how easy it would be to work efficiently and professionally within that precious 30 minute time slot next Thursday. Now that we've been through the show in its entirety multiple times, without stressing out and any major complications, I think we can all remain optimistic and look forward to putting together some quality television by the end of the unit.
