How Top Gear Inspired Us
When I say 'the second' we thought about doing something car-related for this project, that we thought about Top Gear, I'm not understating it. Top Gear, at least in its state prior to the Jeremy Clarkson fracas, had a seat in the pantheon of iconic british television. Featuring some of the best motoring-related cinematography in the industry, there's some incredible material to take inspiration from.
We want to be able to create something that is not only informative, but entertaining and aesthetically pleasing, and to do that we need to look at existing media in order to be able to understand what works. Top Gear has a history of not only telling people what's informative through their shows, but also showing said audience the power in these feats of mechanical engineering.
One of the other things we definitely want to utilise within our package piece is the in-car PTC's, often captured using a small, mountable camera on the inside of windscreen. (Pictured Right) There's something about this particular perspective that feels intimate between the presenter and the audience, whilst also serving as a fantastic opportunity to talk details when it comes to the cars that are being featured in the given episode. Fortunately Alex owns 2 Go-Pro's which we're currently using during production (pictured below).
