TV News Unit | Re-shooting Green-screen Material + Fine Cut Review
Reshoots and Reviews
Today we spent 2 hours of the morning re-shooting our green-screen material in order to fall in line with the changes we made to the live interview late into the project. This involved minor script alterations to include mentioning of Brand's Hatch, interviewing a driver present at the event as well as providing segways into both the quotes from the car mechanics we reached out to, as well as the AJ interview as we are planning to have at-least a portion of it included as part of the in-studio pieces, as to not consume time dedicated to our package and live piece.
I felt that the footage we got from today's shoot was much better than the previous green-screen session, this time we opted to have both me and Andrew standing in the studio simultaneously, sharing the dialogue. Not only did this ensure no one got left out of the creative process, but it also felt much more natural and I was able to bounce off Andrew much easier during the dialogue itself. Similarly, splitting the opening sections between us meant that we had less to memorise each and therefore allowed our recording session to be much more efficient.
We did have some minor issues with lighting to begin with however this was soon fixed when we moved the setup back slightly and adjusted the positioning of the tungsten light kits in order to minimise the shadow intensity behind us.
Bringing The Edit Together
Today and tomorrow are our last days for editing the project before our hand-in on Thursday morning. For this reason we wanted to make sure we were as organised as possible going into it. We recorded the short clip of me in the studio for the teaser I am currently editing and threw that in along with the voiceover I recorded at home. This helped bring the teaser much more into focus so to speak, grounding it as part of our branding. If we had more time I would likely try to create some of my own graphics for the teaser in order to more rigidly emphasise the branding choices we have made throughout this project, however because of time-constraints I am simply unable to do so along with finishing up the rest of our workload. Perhaps something for the evaluation.
One of the other notable additions to the edit today was the background that George so lovingly put together for use during the in-studio pieces (pictured left). Initially the flooring was a bright blue colour similar to the walls, however we all agreed that this was far too vibrant for the look we were going for. In it's current state the flooring is now a maroon-colour which while is a vast improvement, comments were made today regarding it's vibrancy, and whether or not it's slightly too overwhelming to look at when put into practice. This is something that will either be addressed should we have the time, or will be further detailed in our upcoming evaluation pieces.
George spent some time in the morning before the green-screen shoot, compiling the new live interview piece that received positive feedback from Helen during the fine cut review. We also added in various clips from the shoot today. The final project is beginning to truly take shape and i'm excited to see what comes of it within the next 48 hours.
