TV News Unit | Shoot Week - Alex's In Car PTC's, Exterior Car Filming

Shoot Session 1

Today we began shooting our TV News piece, as planned we started off with the various PTC's inside the petrol-based car, as well as the exterior PTC's from Alex. We decided to shoot with multiple cameras as it allows us to punch-in for a close up much easier during the edit, as well as enabling us to collect b-roll with maximum efficiency.

I took the role of main camera-man manning the Panasonic DVX 200 for the large part of the day. I enjoyed getting to go hands on with a premium piece of equipment such as the Panasonic, it's great to be able to so accurately adjust focus, zoom and the aperture using the rings around the front of the camera, not to mention the crystal clear clarity from the preview screen. We decided to shoot in 4K (3840x2160) for this project in order to ensure our project looks as crisp and clear as possible come hand-in, even if we have to supersample the resolution down to 1080p, it should still provide a noticeable quality increase.

We had 2 go-pro's set up inside the car, recording the entire journey as well as myself with the Panasonic, with George and Andrew standing by at various locations to film us as we drove through certain points, this allowed for us to capture both interior and exterior shots of the car. In order to make sure our timing was sufficient, we had an open phone call during the key parts of shooting so that we could warn each other when we were coming, update each other on current states of affairs etc.

Overall I found the experience to be enjoyable to say the least! We managed to get pretty much everything done that we set out to do at the beginning of the day, while most importantly having fun doing so! Well... I had fun at least!
