TV News Unit | Phone Call Session

During today's session we thought it would be a good idea to tie up some loose ends by phoning some people.

We contacted an engineer by the name of 'Bo Harper' based in Monmouthshire, Wales who had experience working with both petrol and electric cars, he went on to provide extensive information regarding the use of electric cars.

"Is it harder to maintain an electric car?"

The only difficulty is electrical issues, such as voltages are slightly different to normal cars.

"Is it cheaper to carry out an MOT?"

The trouble is the price for MOTs haven't gone up for 7 years, theoretically the only difference would be the lack of an emissions test. Hybrids however would have to have an emissions test if they came in petrol mode.

"Do you find many issues with electric cars or are they generally more reliable?"

No not really, health and safety issues with battery voltages, e motors works off of 3 phases. Battery life and reliability is an issue for sure, made up of numeral

"Would you personally own an electric car over a petrol car right now, and why?"

The development has got to go a bit further, the range has got to go a bit further, okay for commuting to work and back is fine but anywhere else is somewhat problematic. As they gain popularity, charging points are going to become more mainstream.

"Is it cheaper to run an electric car?"

What's the cost of the electricity, having to have a charging station installed in your home isn't cheap as well as covering costs for trips further afield, that wouldn't permit the use of your electric car.
Tesla UK Press Office
We've wanted to get filming permission for the Bluewater Tesla store for a while now;

After attempting to contact Tesla multiple times through both their press office and the Bluewater store specifically, we were given the number of head office. Upon ringing them I was told that it would be up to the discretion of the store manager at the time, however we were directed to head office by the store themselves which led to a confusing conversation with the UK press team. Either way they took my details and agreed to forward the request to the relevant departments and get back to me asap.

Hyundai

Alex had previously called Hyundai looking for the use of one of their smart cars and they seemed up for it however we didn't nail down any specifics or book an appointment ourselves as it was too early in production to be able to be certain of our production schedule. Upon ringing them back the person we originally spoke to was unfortunately not present, so they had no record of the conversation. We were advised to call back tomorrow to hopefully arrange something and will update further when it happens.
